Deborah Minor Harvey

Deborah Minor Harvey is the vision and transforming force of The Right Source. Her considerable experience as an educator, higher education administrator, nonprofit manager, business development specialist, facilitator, and trainer has enabled her to bring a variety of perspectives to her work.

Ms. Harvey holds a bachelor's of arts degree in education and a master's degree in student personnel services with an emphasis on guidance and counseling from Montclair State College. She engaged in post-graduate study in curriculum development and instruction at New York University and has completed coursework in organizational development at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, N.J.

Prior to forming The Right Source, Ms. Harvey served as the executive director of the Chicago Area Pre-College Engineering Program, where she designed and implemented teacher training programs and developed academic enrichment programs for students in grades 7 -12.  As a senior level administrator at the Stevens Institute of Technology, she developed programming to prepare at-risk youth for math and science based careers.

Ms. Harvey has leveraged her administration and program development experience to make a significant impact in the policy arena.  She provided policy formulation, analysis, and advocacy support for a nonprofit organization focused on providing quality paraprofessional health care jobs for low-income women.  Additionally, she has participated in a number of public and private forums contributing to policy development in the areas of education, healthcare, workforce development, and welfare reform.

Since 1990, Ms. Harvey has provided training and business development support to female entrepreneurs through her work with the Women's Self Employment Project (WSEP) and the Women's Business Development Center (WBDC).  From 2000 - 2002 she served as the coordinator of the WBDC's Child Care Business Initiative. In this capacity, she designed curriculum modules used to support child care providers seeking to open home or center-based child-care businesses. Ms. Harvey continues to serve as the lead trainer of the WBDC Initiative, providing training and counseling support to child-care providers throughout the Chicagoland area.

In March 2007, Ms. Harvey represented the Women's Business Development Center at a U.S. State Department Office of International Information Program in Macedonia where she conducted a number of workshops for Macedonian women engaged in business start-up and expansion.

Ms. Harvey has served as vice-chair and board member of Women employed and a member of the Chicago Institute of Urban Poverty.  Some of the other organizations which have benefited from her support include:  Taylor Institute, an innovative social problems research organization; The Women's Treatment Center, a national model of comprehensive substance abuse treatment and support services; Southwest Women Working Together, an organization which works to expand options for women; and Sustain, an environmental communications group.
